The Blackmagic Design ATEM 4 M/E Constellation 4K Plus is an advanced Ultra HD live production switcher featuring 80 standards-converted 12G-SDI inputs, 48 independent 12G-SDI outputs, 16 chroma keyers, 4 DVEs, 4 Ultra HD multiviews and built-in talkback. Designed for large-scale productions, it supports multiple HD and Ultra HD formats up to 2160p60 with powerful audio and visual processing tools.

Ultra HD Live Switching Power

This model doubles the size of Blackmagic’s previous 4 M/E switcher, ideal for high-demand productions such as concerts, sports broadcasts and multi-camera events. It includes 4 Ultra HD media players, 2 SuperSource processors and 16 ATEM Advanced Chroma Keyers, making it suitable for complex compositing, virtual sets and layered live graphics.

Compact Rack Mount Design

The unit’s built-in front panel control, premium push buttons, LCD screen, and 5-pin talkback headset support offer immediate operation on-site. Rear connections include 12G-SDI inputs and outputs, balanced audio, RS-422, MADI and Ethernet. It’s portable yet powerful, fitting into a standard rack for OB vans or studio setups.

Flexible Input Conversion and Output Routing

Each SDI input has a dedicated standards converter, allowing seamless use of mixed broadcast formats. All outputs are independently assignable — ideal for sending customised feeds to stage displays, recorders, streamers or ISO capture systems, complete with program audio, tally, camera control and timecode.

Customisable Multiview Monitoring

The 4 independent multiview outputs allow monitoring up to 16 sources per view, with custom layouts, source labels, tally borders and audio meters. Multiviews are essential for centralised source monitoring in busy control rooms or live environments.

DVE and SuperSource Effects

Four DVEs support real-time resizing, positioning and picture-in-picture with advanced 3D border and transition effects. Two SuperSource processors add even more flexibility, combining up to 5 layers into a single source for interviews, panel shows or advanced graphics compositions.

Broadcast-Grade Chroma Keying

Equipped with 16 chroma keyers, this switcher is optimised for virtual set use. Each M/E row can deploy 4 upstream keyers, supporting per-camera keying workflows. The built-in colour picker and foreground correction tools help create seamless composites with realistic blending.

Robust Talkback and Communication

Integrated talkback supports ClearCom and RTS via RJ12, with SDI talkback embedded on channels 15 and 16 for use with Blackmagic cameras. The unit provides program/engineering loops, sidetone control and optional mic-to-program mixing for live narration.

Media Pool and Graphics Playback

With up to 60 stills and 400-frame animations supported, media assets can be triggered instantly via the 2 or 4 media players. The media pool is controlled via the ATEM Software Control or Photoshop plug-in for fast content updates during live shows.

Audio Mixing with Fairlight

A 156-channel Fairlight audio mixer is built in, with EQ, compression, gating and limiting on all inputs. MADI outputs allow up to 60 de-embedded SDI audio feeds to external mixers, while MADI inputs support 128 additional audio channels. Audio from analog, talkback and media sources is also included.

Advanced Control Panel Integration

Compatible with all ATEM Advanced Panels, including the massive 4 M/E version with 40 input buttons per row, these panels include dynamic LCD labeling, illuminated controls, a joystick and T-bar for intuitive, tactile control over the switcher’s full capabilities.
